After
taking an honours degree in modern languages and literature (Italian
and French) at Trinity College, University of Dublin, I lived in various
countries for a number of years. About fifteen years ago I moved to
Italy and my interest in the Italian language was renewed. I translated
Marco Lodoli’s trilogy I principianti (Einaudi) under the title
The innocents (Quartet). The University of Pisa then accepted me for
two years’ post-graduate studies in text analysis and literary
translation. During this period, and afterwards, for academic purposes
I translated works by several writers including Pirandello, Natalia
Ginzburg, Pavese, Stefano Benni, Dino Buzzati.
Recent work includes the translation of an adventure story, aimed
at a young adult readership, written by the physicist Giorgio Salvatori
in which he examines the far-reaching effects of environmental pollution.
I have also translated artists’ biographies and art criticism
for a number of catalogues.
