The next meeting of the group is suggested for Matera, in September, to coincide with Elizabeth Jennings' celebrated Festival of Women's Fiction. More details will be posted as they become available.

A small but select group met at Patricia Guy's place in Verona. Much interesting discussion, about e-publication, improving members' news on the website and attracting more members to the group. Minute have been circulated by the indefatigable Michelle.

The Cortona meeting went off as planned, nine of us gathering in an echoing hall above the Teatro Signorelli, kindly organised by Patti Garvin. There were reports on the Matera Literature Festival that Liz Jennings organises and discussion about where the anthology goes next. In the evening dinner... lots of it!... was at a restaurant nearby. Thanks to Patti for organising everything.

One of our members, Gabriel Griffin, announces that the IX Poetry on the Lake Celebration will take place in Orta San Giulio on 25-27 September, with poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy taking part. For more information see the Poetry on the Lake website.

The eighth meeting of the group took place in Trevi on Saturday 9th May at Patricia Clough's house, on her terrace overlooking most of Umbria. There was much talk about things to do with publishing. Perhaps this is the main function of the meetings. In the evening we repaired to an enoteca in Trevi itself and the discussion continued until well after midnight. So there must have been something worth saying.

The seventh meeting of the English Writer's in Italy group took place in Verona on Saturday 22nd November at Patricia Guy's flat. There's a photo to prove it. The main discussion centred on the anthology but we also benefitted greatly from Patirica's wine expertise. After the meeting, along with various partners, we reconvened for dinner at a Veronese trattoria.

The next meeting is scheduled for May, in Todi. One of our other Patricias - Patricia Clough this time - has offered to host that one. Details will follow. On 24th May the group held it's sixth meeting, this time in Florence. A record number of members attended. Many thanks to Jean Grundy Fanelli for hosting it. The main point of discussion was the anthology that Gay Marks is editing on behalf of the group. Negotiations with publishers are underway, and meanwhile there is another project in the making.

It was also decided that the website should have some regularly updatable pages. This is one (see news about members of the group below); the diary is another. Have a look.
